Understanding and Applying a Proper Pistol Grip

Proper pistol grip

[toc] Everything You Need to Know To Get a Grip on a Pistol Out of all the new shooters I have ever worked with, and I mean the people who have never fired a pistol, there seems to be one thing they are all afraid of: the pistol flying out of their hands. Don’t get me wrong, that can happen. It’s impressively unlikely though and requires pretty unique circumstances to … [Read more...] about Understanding and Applying a Proper Pistol Grip

An In-Depth Look at Shooting Stances: Isosceles, Weaver & Chapman

An in-depth look at shooting stances.

[toc] Understanding How the Body Affects Accuracy, and How to Improve Your Shooting Foundation Marksmanship is like building a house. A really nice house. For this analogy, we will group the gun fundamentals (trigger, sight alignment, sight picture, etc.) together and call them the roof. Now, you’ve been practicing the gun fundamentals a lot. You’ve dialed it all in … [Read more...] about An In-Depth Look at Shooting Stances: Isosceles, Weaver & Chapman

The Definitive Guide to Sight Picture: What is It, and How it Works to Get Your Shots on Target

What is sight picture?

[toc] If you’ve spent any time at a range listening to people talk about how to shoot, it’s likely you have heard the terms sight alignment and sight picture. It’s also incredibly likely that whoever said those terms described them in ways that led you to believe they were the same thing. Well, my friends, they are not the same thing. Take a car for instance. Is the … [Read more...] about The Definitive Guide to Sight Picture: What is It, and How it Works to Get Your Shots on Target

What is Sight Alignment? Definitive Guide to Understanding Sight Alignment

What is sight alignment?

[toc] So, you want to learn to shoot accurately, or your marksmanship is not exactly where you want it to be? Don’t fret, my friend. Anyone can learn to shoot accurately, it's simply a matter of instruction. As my friend Rubin said in the film Road Trip: “I can teach Japanese to a monkey in 46 hours. The key is just finding a way to relate to the material.” Comical, but … [Read more...] about What is Sight Alignment? Definitive Guide to Understanding Sight Alignment

TIMERS & SWITCHES This video has been shared a lot TIMERS & SWITCHES
This video has been shared a lot the past few weeks to highlight the reality that it often takes multiple pistol shots to stop an attacker.

We wanted to share it also to mention a related topic, i.e. timers and switches.

Army Ranger, Dave Steinbach (@stonybrook73), makes it a point to discuss this in his classes.

It isn't necessarily the number of shots, but shot placement. Generally speaking, if one hits a switch, for example one's brain stem, it's 'lights out'. If one hits a timer, let's say one's stomach, one can stay in the fight--granted, there are shorter and longer timers.

As always, take as many shots as needed to neutralize a threat.

MULTIPLE OPPONENTS A couple of weeks ago, we talke MULTIPLE OPPONENTS
A couple of weeks ago, we talked about how it is common for people to train against single threats. It is uncommon to consider training to defend yourself against multiple opponents.

There are groups of people who do prepare themselves for multiple attackers, but we believe more time should be spent on doing so.

It's happening more and more these days--more than one 'bad guy' is involved.

Take this recent video from San Francisco, where a 67-year old man was robbed. At his age, unarmed, and caught by surprise by multiple people, perhaps there was nothing he could do.

But consider dealing with multiple opponents more in your training.

YOUR PROPERTY OR YOUR LIFE? We've mentioned in the YOUR PROPERTY OR YOUR LIFE?
We've mentioned in the past, generally speaking, it's a good idea to give your property away when confronted rather than risk your life for your property.

Here, the man being robbed makes a smart move by throwing his wallet at the criminal, i.e. giving the criminal what he wants...

But we've also mentioned, sometimes criminals want more...

In this video from Nashville, it was reported by the male victim that the armed robber tried firing his gun, but it malfunctioned.

We never really know how things will turn...

Stay safe.
