In Episode #3 of “The Journey,” I train with Glock defensive training expert, Matt Mellinger.
Matt is the lead firearms instructor at the GlockStore. He has been shooting for over 30 years and is a highly sought after trainer. He has a unique way of empathizing with his students and he can break down complex movements into simple steps.
Watch Episode #3
In Episode #1, I trained with retired Navy SEAL Coch where we reviewed the basics of combat pistol. Once a shooter has a good grasp on the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, it's important to start adding movement.
Episode #3 builds on Episode #1 and the basics of shooting. Here, Matt runs me through an effective CCW drill progression to improve my ability to shoot and move.
I run the drills as a concealed carrier, but the drill progression is just as effective for those who carry outside of their waistbands as it is for CCW permit holders.
Episode #3 is ideal for beginners who already have a good grasp of the basics of pistol marksmanship and are ready to take things beyond the typical indoor range experience.
As with all firearms training, safety is paramount. While these are basic moving and shooting drills, it is important you master the basics and your draw before trying these drills, whether you carry concealed or outside the waistband.
Keep in mind, nothing replaces in-person training with a qualified instructor, so if you are a beginner, I recommend running these drills with an experienced instructor first.
