“The Journey” Ep 7: Intro to Long Range Shooting with Former USCG Precision Marksmanship Instructor Billy Leahy

Intro to Long Range Shooting with USCG Precision Marksmanship Instructor, Billy Leahy.

In Episode #7 of “The Journey,” I train with Subject Matter Expert, former USCG Precision Marksmanship Instructor, Billy Leahy.

He served over 12 years with the U.S. Coast Guard, which included various military and law enforcement operations.

He spent more than 10 years in the Deployable Specialized Forces (DSF) Unit and Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT).

He also won the 2017 U.S. Army International Sniper Competition featured on the History Channel, placing 1st in service class and 3rd overall against 30 teams from around the world.

Watch Episode #7

In Episode #7 of “The Journey”, I dive into the world of precision rifle shooting or long-range shooting.

Long-range shooting is definitely a different ball game compared to shooting a pistol or carbine. It takes a lot of patience and preparation to consistently shoot targets at long ranges.

Precision rifle shooting is such a new and broad topic for me. My training session with Billy was broken into two days, and so much material was covered.

The first day focused on fundamentals, gear and rifle set up, zeroing and shooting at known distances on a flat range. The second day focused on shooting targets at unknown distances and angles.

It's impossible for us to dive into all the details, but this episode gives you an inside look into some of the highlights from the two days of training.

We will be breaking down many of the topics, such as zeroing and milling, in separate videos. Doing so in one episode would result in a very long episode!

Episode #7 is ideal for people who are brand new to long-range shooting, and who want an overview of what's involved.

Awesome! Thank you for explaining long range shooting. What was the barrel length on your ar15? I am tempted to buy a long range scope and give it a try on mine!

    Thanks!
