In Episode #8 of “The Journey,” I train with Subject Matter Expert, former U.S. Army Ranger and member of the Army Marksmanship Unit, Dave Steinbach.
Dave retired from the Army after more than 21 years of service. The majority of his time was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment and the US Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU).
Following multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, his crowning assignment was when he was directed to stand up the “Wounded Warrior Training Group” (now referred to as ITG) in the USAMU.
The mission of ITG is to increase lethality and survivability across the force by combining solid marksmanship fundamentals and material advancements along with combat relevance
Watch Episode #8
In Episode #8 of “The Journey”, Dave condensed a 10-day tactical carbine course into 2-days. The goal of the session was to get me running and gunning quickly, shooting targets in-depth and targets in width.
There are a lot of great bits of instruction that were covered, and we've included a number of them for you in this episode.
We quickly went over fundamentals so Dave could evaluate my skill level, and we quickly moved into dynamic shooting.
I really enjoyed this training session as I've been really wanting to improve my moving and shooting with my rifle.
Our training session gave me the opportunity to get a lot of reps in while Dave was able to keep a close eye on my technique to make immediate corrections.
I learned a lot of simple techniques and tweaks to help improve my shot accuracy and speed, and I'm going to start training with a 2-point sling for additional support and recoil management. (I usually always use a 1-point sling.)
Episode #8 is ideal for people who have an intermediate to advanced rifle skill level, and for those who are interested to see how Dave teaches how to shoot with a carbine.
